Milton Fire-Rescue has issued a controlled burn permit for an area around the intersection of Francis and Cogburn roads, where residents may notice smoke over the next two weeks. The burn is part of the development for a new large-lot neighborhood and will cover 21.493 acres, starting yesterday, according to a statement from the City of Milton.
The new neighborhood will have parcels at least 3 acres in size, and the burn is meant to clear the land in preparation. The burn will not take place at night, on Sundays, if it’s raining, or if the smoke’s opacity is 40 percent or more, to minimize the impact on residents and the environment. An air curtain destructor will be used to help manage smoke emissions, though smoke may still be visible, especially in the mornings.
Residents affected by the smoke have been informed that the burn will end by sunset on Friday next week, though it could finish earlier. Milton Fire-Rescue is overseeing the burn to ensure it follows permitted times and conditions to reduce safety risks and environmental impacts.
Anyone with concerns can contact the Milton Fire Marshal’s office. Questions can be sent to [email protected]. The city reminds the public that controlled burns are routine and permitted by law when conducted under local guidelines from the Milton Fire-Rescue Department.
