The city of Milwaukee has been grappling with an alarming surge of gun violence over the past week, with multiple shootings reported, resulting in deaths and several injuries, including those of a child and a teen. The police are currently investigating these incidents with scant information available on potential suspects in many of the cases.
The first of these recent incidents occurred early Friday morning, around 3:15 a.m., near 12th and Locust where a 16-year-old was shot. CBS 58 reports that the victim was transported to a hospital for medical attention. Within the same hour, another shooting was confirmed near 7th and Becher, which claimed the life of a 42-year-old and left a 47-year-old with non-fatal injuries. While the Milwaukee Police Department has identified a known suspect in this second shooting, no further details have been released at this time.
Adding to the toll, a double shooting turned fatal for a 46-year-old, while another victim, aged 39, was hospitalized with nonfatal wounds, according to WISN. This incident marks the seventh shooting in Milwaukee in just one week. No arrests have been made thus far in this case, leaving the community on edge.
Continuing the spate of violence, early Sunday morning another individual was injured by gunfire. The Milwaukee Police Department confirmed that a 24-year-old victim was shot around 28th and Wells, and thereafter sought treatment at a local hospital, FOX 6 reported. These shootings are not just a series of isolated incidents,, but rather a grim reflection of a wider, deep-seated issue the city confronts with gun violence.
As the community processes the incident and the injured recover, authorities continue their investigation. The Milwaukee Police Department is urging anyone with information to come forward.
