In a significant crackdown on child sex predators, the Modesto Police Department has arrested 21 individuals linked to child sexual exploitation, which included charges ranging from possession and distribution of child pornography to attempting to engage in sexual acts with minors.
These arrests followed a series of proactive investigations conducted by the department's Investigative Services Division, supported by specialized training from the Sacramento Valley Hi-Tech Crimes Task Force, according to a Facebook post by the Modesto Police Department. The operations spanned several months, utilizing undercover online interactions to identify predators and following up on tips provided by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
An emphasis on child safety was echoed by Sergeant Alex Rivera of the Special Crimes Unit, who said, "The safety of our children is our top priority. These arrests send a clear message—Modesto will not tolerate child predators in our community. Our detectives worked tirelessly to bring these offenders to justice, and we will continue to use every available resource to protect our most vulnerable residents. Every arrest made in these operations is one less predator that can harm a child." Among those arrested are individuals like Jeremiah Sloan and Michael Vickerman, who were charged with sending harmful material to minors and attempting lewd acts with children under 14, while others such as Alvaro Avalos and Ricardo Huerta were arrested for possession of child pornography following tips from NCMEC, which led to the execution of search warrants and the capturing of eight adults and one juvenile across fourteen locations in Modesto. Several of the arrested individuals, including registered sex offenders, were found during undercover operations where they believed they were communicating with minors, and in some cases they sent explicit messages or arranged face-to-face meetings with the intent of committing sexual acts.
