Missouri gears up to kick off a significant upgrade to its transportation infrastructure as the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) announces a groundbreaking ceremony for the latest phase in its 'Improve I-70' initiative. Set for next Thursday at 10 a.m., the event will mark the commencement of construction work aimed at expanding a segment of Interstate 70 between Warrenton and Wentzville. According to MoDOT's announcement, this project will include the development of a third lane in each direction to better accommodate the heavy flow of traffic in the area.
This ceremonious event, as per MoDOT, will be located at the shuttered eastbound I-70 weigh station in Foristell, hinting at a new era for commuters and travelers alike. Establishing a widened path for vehicles that have navigated the corridor, MoDOT's efforts reflect an investment exceeding half a billion dollars. The allocation, making up the largest single contract in MoDOT's history, totals $600 million.
Attendees wishing to partake in the groundbreaking moment can access the venue through the I-70 south outer road by exiting I-70 at Route T/W (Exit 203) and following the signs to the event. A MoDOT vehicle equipped with flashing lights will guide them to the entrance, ensuring a smooth arrival for all guests.
The event will feature speeches from an impressive roster of local and state officials. Scheduled to take the stage are Dustin Boatwright, Vice-Chair of the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission, Travis Fitzwater representing Missouri Senate District 10, and Joe Gildehaus, Warren County Presiding Commissioner, among others. As reported by MoDOT, attendees will also hear from Steve Ehlmann, St. Charles County Executive, and Ed Hassinger, MoDOT Director, signaling their enduring commitment to enhancing Missouri's roadways.
Further bolstering the project's financial foundation, Missouri's FY2024 budget provision caters for a significant portion of roadway revamp costs, channeling a whopping $2.8 billion in General Revenue to create additional lanes for the I-70 stretch from Blue Springs to Wentzville.
