Molly Miller is set to take charge of the Arizona State women's basketball team, coming off a spirited tenure at Grand Canyon University. In what could be dubbed a local talent shuffle, the announcement comes following the dismissal of Natasha Adair earlier in March, after a lackluster 29-62 run over three seasons.
Miller, 38, leaves behind a trail of success at GCU where she bolstered the Lopes, pushing them to a historic 30-game winning streak which included their first Western Athletic Conference title and an NCAA Tournament berth, as reported by ABC15. Their commendable streak did, however, come to a halt against Baylor in the first round of the tournament.
GCU Athletic Director Jamie Boggs expressed gratitude for Miller's service to the program, stating, "We would like to thank coach Molly Miller for leading our program for five seasons, culminating in the first conference title and NCAA Tournament appearance for women’s basketball," in a gesture mirrored by AJC.com. "We wish her the best in her new opportunity," Boggs added.
Prior to her stint with the Lopes, Miller's prowess was no secret as she steered her alma mater, Division II Drury, to an impressive 180-17 record over the course of six seasons. Her move to Arizona State, thus, signals a hope for the Sun Devils to turn the page, embrace a winning culture, and compete at higher levels.
