A 4-year-old girl found only wearing a diaper and chased by dogs in Monroe, Michigan, has ignited concerns about child safety and neglect. CBS News Detroit reported that the incident occurred on Monday in the 800 block of Washington Street. Police responded to multiple calls around 12:16 p.m., discovering the girl with cuts and abrasions on her feet, legs, and chest. A Monroe neighbor reportedly came to the aid of the young girl, providing a blanket to shield her from the cold, amidst temperatures in the mid-30s.
Officers determined the child's uncle, a 27-year-old man who was supposed to be caring for his niece at the time, had been neglectful, leading to charges of fourth-degree child abuse. The Monroe Public Safety Department shared details of the arrest and the community's assistance in a Facebook post. They lauded the "citizen callers who reported this and wish the victim a quick recovery," urging residents to "say something" if they observe suspicious or dangerous activities.
The involvement of Child Protective Services has been confirmed, indicating further investigation into the child's wellbeing. After the incident, the girl was taken to the area hospital for "treatment of exposure to the cold," as detailed by CBS News Detroit, along with her physical injuries.
