A wildfire broke out in Montcalm County, swallowing up 21 acres before being subdued by several fire departments working in collaboration. According to the Richland Township Fire Department's Facebook page, the blaze was initiated last Wednesday near Lake Montcalm Rd and Caris Rd. The fire department's post, which highlighted the contribution of neighboring fire departments from Crystal, Day Township, and Home Township, along with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, cited "Dry Conditions and Wind" as significant factors that influenced the spread of the fire. Fortunately, the post also noted that no injuries were reported.
Responding to the call just before 9 p.m., emergency services were battling a fire that had aggressively branched into the swampy woodland. Efforts to fully extinguish the fire extended well into the early morning, with all units reported to have cleared the scene by approximately 2:20 am, stated the Richland Twp. Fire Department. The coordination between local fire departments and emergency services from Montcalm County was essential in preventing further threats to the residents and the surrounding area.
Additional context to the firefighting efforts revealed that the fire had been managed and suppressed within approximately five hours. The all-clear signal came after a strenuous battle with windy conditions that played a pivotal role in the spread of the fire.
