Residents of Moon Township in Allegheny County experienced a sudden disruption yesterday when a large tree collapsed onto Flaugherty Run Road, shuttering the thoroughfare and knocking out power for hundreds. The obstruction, which claimed several utility lines in its wake, prompted an immediate response from local authorities and service providers.
The Moon Township Police Department advised the public via social media that Flaugherty Run Road would be closed between Foxwood Drive and Becks Run Road "for a significant amount of time." The resulting traffic diversions underscored the intersections of nature's unpredictability with the rhythms of suburban life. As reported by Audacy, the call for rerouted commutes and altered schedules came swiftly.
Duquesne Light worked hard to restore power after the unexpected outage. According to a Facebook post by the Moon Township Police, nearly 800 residents were without electricity from early afternoon. Updates tracked the progress of the outage, with WTAE confirming the extent of the disruption to the community.
