The Metropolitan Police Department is seeking the public's help in identifying a suspect involved in a recent felony assault on a police officer. The incident occurred yesterday in Southeast D.C., where a member of the MPD's Seventh District Special Missions Unit was attacked while approaching an individual reportedly consuming marijuana in a public area.
Around 3:59 p.m., officers were making contact with the male subject on the 2600 block of Birney Place, Southeast, when multiple suspects assaulted them. One of these suspects was caught on surveillance footage, and their image has now been released to the public. Metropolitan Police urge anyone with information about the incident or the suspect's identity to come forward.
Images of the suspect have been circulated to garner community assistance. The MPD has announced a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest and indictment in the case. They have asked that those with information should "take no action but call police at (202) 727-9099" or send a tip via text to the department's TEXT TIP LINE at 50411, as per the Metropolitan Police Department.
