Murfreesboro Fire Rescue is set to ignite a spark of interest in firefighting among local youth with the upcoming 'Teen Fire Academy'. This short-term academy is a hands-on, immersive experience designed to introduce youngsters to the profession. The program will run from June 25 to June 27, from 8 a.m. to noon each day.
According to the event details posted on the City of Murfreesboro's official website, the three-day event is an intense dive into the various facets of a firefighter's duties. It's going to tackle stuff like fire extinguisher training, hose handling, and equipment usage. Additionally, students have the chance to see extrication and search and rescue demonstrations up-close. Also on the docket is a repelling demonstration and other activities that showcase the daily grind of the fire service.
The academy has limited slots, with only 20 spots available for interested teens. This exclusivity ensures a quality, hands-on learning experience for each cadet. An added incentive is the affordable fee of $25 per student, breaking down barriers to access for aspiring firefighters looking for an introduction to the service.
The Doug Young Public Safety Training Center, located at 701 Bridge Ave, will serve as both the pick-up and drop-off point for students during the academy days. For those in need of additional information or wanting to snag one of the coveted spots in the program, Assistant Fire Marshal Shan Womack is the point of contact. Shan can be reached at 615-801-4495 or via email at [email protected], representing a direct line to understanding more about what the Teen Fire Academy entails.
