The R&B community is in a moment of reflection as Angie Stone, known for her soulful voice and music that became anthems for many, was laid to rest following a car crash earlier this month. Stone's son, Michael Archer, also known as Twain, has publicly shared his grief, paying tribute to his mother with an emotional post on social media. In his Instagram tribute, which featured personal videos and childhood photos, Archer wrote, "You never failed me ever, ever... You never were a burden to me… I'm so grateful for the lessons that I learned from you," as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta.
However, Archer’s mourning was accompanied by a sense of frustration. He addressed individuals whom he feels had wronged his late mother, both during her life and after her passing. "I seen it. We all seen it. Your actions were on full display," Archer said in a video included in the post, calling out those who took advantage of Stone's generosity and kindness. He added, "But no more. Ya’ll folks do not get to use, you don’t get to take advantage, you don’t get to abuse my mother’s kindness and her heart no more," this statement as well as additional details regarding the exploitation of Stone's work and kindness were outlined in an article by The Root.
The sentiments expressed by Archer aligned with remarks made by filmmaker Tyler Perry at Stone's funeral. Perry discussed the lack of fair compensation and recognition Stone received for her contributions to the industry, addressing issues within the music business that often impact the legacies of artists like Stone. Additionally, the controversy surrounding Stone's relationship with Universal Music Group resurfaced as old videos emerged, in which she spoke out about the company's handling of her royalties.
Stone, recognized for her soulful tracks like No More Rain (In This Cloud) and the hit "I Wish I Didn't Miss You," leaves behind a legacy shaped by both her contributions to the industry and the challenges she faced within it, The Root reported.
