The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department is set for a shift in leadership as two of its lieutenants ascend to higher ranks. Effective the coming Saturday, Derek Keeler and Justin Pinkelton will take on the roles of captains, as announced by Chief John Drake in a press release yesterday. The promotion comes following a combined 47 years of service by the officers within the department.
With a 19-year tenure under his belt, Derek Keeler has been recognized for his supervisory role in the Behavioral Health Services Division. Upon stepping into his new position, he will be managing the Records Division located in Madison. Notably, Keeler is an alumnus of Trevecca Nazarene University, holding a Bachelor's Degree. The official announcement mentioned his educational background in conjunction with his record of service.
Similarly, Justin Pinkelton will be enhancing his 28-year career by heading the Warrants Division. Previously overseeing the East Precinct’s day shift, his experiences have prepared him for the complexities of his new leadership role. Pinkelton is a graduate from Columbia Southern University, holding a related Bachelor's Degree.
These promotions signal a continued commitment from the MNPD to reinforce its leadership structure. Both Keeler and Pinkelton have transitioned to their roles over the weekend, eagerly awaited by a Records Division in Madison and a Warrants Division that will benefit from their extensive field experience and managerial skills. The Nashville Police Department hopes that their educational background adds valuable insights into their respective fields of supervision.
