The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department is mourning the loss of North Precinct Commander Anthony McClain, who passed away Sunday night due to complications from a heart attack he suffered back in February. McClain, who led the precinct covering a significant portion of Davidson County, was 53 years old and served the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department for 27 years.
According to a statement released by the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, Chief John Drake reflected on McClain's commitment to the community, "Anthony was a dear friend to many and was extremely devoted to the safety and betterment of the North Nashville Community." Drake spoke to McClain's dedication to service, noting his involvement in local events and direct engagement with residents to address their concerns. This commitment was exemplified through McClain's participation in events such as delivering Thanksgiving meals with the Nashville Predators to families within his precinct.
McClain's career was marked by a progression through the ranks of the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department after completing his service with the United States Air Force. A graduate of Tennessee State University, he joined Metropolitan Nashville Police Department in 1997 and worked various roles from patrolman to captain. In 2021, he was appointed to command the North Precinct. In remembrance of his service, McNashville's New Generation Funeral Home will manage visitation arrangements, with details to be announced soon.
The funeral service is set to take place at Lake Providence Missionary Baptist Church on a date and time yet to be determined. The department, along with those who knew Commander McClain, will be paying their last respects to a man who, according to Chief Drake, "cared deeply about the safety of our city and its people." His influence on the community and profound commitment to public service will be sorely missed as recounted by the official Metropolitan Nashville Police Department announcement.
