The manhunt for a serial robbery suspect came to a close this week as the Nashville Police, in coordination with the U.S. Marshals, apprehended 29-year-old Alex Currithers. The arrest took place on Tuesday afternoon at a strip mall located in the 3600 block of Bell Road, where his black Jeep Grand Cherokee, linked to multiple robberies, was also found. Inside the vehicle, authorities discovered a handgun and various narcotics, including ten grams of cocaine, 5.3 grams of fentanyl, and eight grams of meth, as indicated by a report by the Nashville Metropolitan Police Department (MNPD).
Following his capture, Currithers confessed to a series of armed robberies across Nashville, specifically targeting the Dollar General on Murfreesboro Pike on Monday, Circle K on Nolensville Pike last Wednesday, and another Dollar General on Gallatin Pike last Monday. It was the community's response to surveillance photos disseminated by the media that led to the identification of the suspect, and the U.S. Marshals Service had also been in pursuit of Currithers, connecting him to a staggering 18 outstanding warrants in Georgia, including for charges of aggravated robbery and assault against an officer.
Charged locally as a fugitive from justice and with three counts of aggravated robbery, Currithers also made incriminating statements concerning other recent robberies in LaVergne and Brentwood. MNPD's effective investigation was supported by contributions from their Canine Unit and Aviation Section and the LaVergne and Brentwood Police Departments.
