Authorities have charged 25-year-old Karla Guadalupe Armendariz after a fatal collision between a pickup truck and an electric scooter in Nashville. The incident occurred on Monday night and resulted in the death of 65-year-old Charles Fountain. Armendariz faces charges of vehicular homicide by intoxication, leaving the scene of a crash involving death, and driving without a license. She was taken into custody after a tip to Nashville Crime Stoppers led to the recovery of the gray Toyota Tundra involved in the crash, according to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.
Armendariz was apprehended in Brentwood and admitted to consuming six beers and taking a prescription drug before the accident. She told investigators she had blacked out and did not remember the collision. The victim, Fountain, was an over-the-road truck driver who was returning to the TA Truck Stop on his electric scooter after visiting a Dollar General Store. His scooter was dragged for over 900 feet by a Toyota before becoming dislodged. The pickup truck then left the scene. Armendariz is facing charges and is being held on a $100,000 bond, as reported by the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.
Authorities emphasize the dangers of driving under the influence and the importance of road safety for alternative transportation like electric scooters. Nashville law enforcement urges the public to report information that may assist in investigations. Citizen tips helped locate and arrest Armendariz. Anyone with knowledge of criminal activity is encouraged to contact Nashville Crime Stoppers, as stated by the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.
