Motorists traversing the OR 211 and S Meridian Road intersection will encounter a significant shift in traffic patterns, effective yesterday. This junction has been converted into a four-way stop, requiring drivers on OR 211 to come to a full halt. Visible stop signs and an overhead flashing red light are new additions, aiming to ensure compliance with the stop requirement.
In a recent update by the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT), travelers have been informed of the crucial changes. As part of the improvements, "we recently: Installed stop signs on OR 211 at the intersection, added rumble strips across the lane at four locations on OR 211, two on each side of S Meridian Road, added overhead flashing red warning lights to alert drivers of the new all-way stop, installed new signs where needed," according to the ODOT bulletin. The authorities anticipate returning in 2026 or 2027 to institute permanent modifications at this site.
Motorists are urged to stay vigilant and practice caution while navigating through the work zone. It's important to take note of the construction signs and consider the safety of the workers in the area. The fines for traffic infractions in these zones can be doubled, emphasizing the gravity of heeding roadwork laws. Additionally, arrangements have been made to accommodate pedestrian access, encompassing provisions for those with disabilities.
ODOT also invites residents to stay informed on roadwork in their communities. Interested individuals can explore an interactive map featuring current projects by visiting ODOT's webpage. Moreover, ODOT reassures the public, "We do not discriminate on the basis of disability in admission or access to our programs, services, activities, hiring and employment practices." Clear communication is a priority, as reflected by providing translation/interpretation services and alternative formats for individuals requiring ADA Title II or Civil Rights Title VI accommodations.
