The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) has apprehended Broderick Butler, a Black male born on February 29, 2000, in relation to the attempted second degree murder of a man on March 5, 2025, in the Sixth District, a statement from NOPD News confirmed. The incident occurred around 2:00 a.m. on St. Andrew Street, where police discovered a male victim with a gunshot wound following what was later identified as a shootout between rival groups from Baton Rouge, spilling out from a nightclub.
In a joint effort between NOPD and the Baton Rouge Police Department (BRPD), Butler was identified as the shooter. Yesterday, after NOPD obtained an arrest warrant for attempted second-degree murder and the illegal use of a weapon, while BRPD secured a search warrant for Butler's home and vehicle, the warrants were executed by BRPD's Special Response Team along with other units. Butler was detained without resistance. NOPD detectives reported that the search resulted in the recovery of a stolen 9mm Glock 19 with an extended magazine, substantial cash, drugs, and additional evidence relevant to the case.
Butler now faces charges not only for attempted second degree murder and illegal use of a weapon but also for illegal possession of a stolen firearm and possession of schedule II drugs; he was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison as a fugitive on his active NOPD arrest warrant, according to the NOPD update.
