In a city bursting with culture and spirit, the selection of the Rex and Queen of Carnival embodies the crescendo of New Orleans' world-renowned festivities. Partner at Chaffe McCall law firm, Howell Crosby, is set to don the mantle of Rex, King of Carnival for 2025, bringing his vibrant love for the city and its traditions to the forefront of this year's Mardi Gras celebrations. As reported by WWLTV, Crosby expressed his honor at being selected, saying, "It's a real honor to have even been considered, let alone selected to be Rex."
Crosby, no stranger to the parade circuit, has previously taken part in the Rex parade and has ridden as a lieutenant, cloaked under the guise of a green tunic and cape, undetected by the masses save for those in the know. Yet, come March 2nd, the anonymity dissolves as he prepares to gleefully embrace the public's gaze. "A connector of people for the good," as described by NOLA.com, Crosby's tenure is marked by a personal touch—a doting grandfather who crafts custom dollhouses for his grandchildren in his off hours.
Tatum Reiss is the crowned Queen of Carnival, sharing the regal spotlight with Crosby. Together, they’ll preside over a parade steeped in history, as the theme for this year harks back to a golden age: La Belle Epoque. According to FOX 8 Live, Crosby believes this year's parade to be a pinnacle of beauty, asserting, "I really think it is the most beautiful parade we have ever put on." His anticipation for the shared joy is poignant— an emotion keenly enveloped within the city's festive embrace.
The role of Rex offers Crosby a platform to embody the grandeur and camaraderie inherent in Carnival, a sentiment echoed by his eagerness to connect with the jubilant masses. "I always love seeing the people and the expressions and the greetings, and I’m hoping to see that again," he told FOX 8 Live, underlying his anticipation for a magical experience.
