The National Weather Service in New Orleans has blessed us with what's shaping up to be quite an ordinary week, weather-wise, here in the Big Easy. Don't expect any surprises from the sky for your Monday morning, as it will be mostly sunny with a comfortable high near 71 degrees, according to NWS New Orleans. You'll feel, a gust here and there as the southeast wind picks up to a bracing 10 to 15 mph, and don't be surprised if those gusts get up to 25 mph by Monday night.
But here comes the twist, Tuesday is when things start to get wetter—and not from a romp at Bourbon Street. Showers are likely, and a thunderstorm after noon could add some drama to your midday plans. Hold onto your hats; the winds could burst up to 40 mph. And for those who prefer their evenings stormy, Tuesday night promises a boisterous 80 percent chance of precipitation as showers and possible thunderstorms roll through until midnight. "Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after noon," warns the NWS, and if those showers aren't enough to dampen your spirits, then the breezy conditions with southwest wind gusts as high as 35 mph on Tuesday night just might.
Fret not though, as Wednesday is set to restore meteorological normalcy with a return to sunshine and a high near 67 degrees. While the wind remains a persistent fixture, gusting as high as 25 mph, it should be clear sailing weather-wise for any mid-week endeavors. It seems Mother Nature is playing the typical March tune, blowing hot and cold with the subtlety of a Mardi Gras parade—minus the beads, of course.
The clear skies will hang around for Wednesday night, with lows dropping to a snug 47 degrees. Your Thursday will continue this trend with more sun and a high near 62 degrees to make any outdoor lunches a delightful affair. The weekend, however, might need some reconsideration for any picnic plans. Friday hints at a partly sunny day, but by night, we're back to that chance of showers rolling through.
Moving to the weekend forecast, it's a bit of a mixed bag. The NWS predicts, "A chance of showers and thunderstorms," for Saturday, with a mostly cloudy setting and a high creeping up to 75 degrees. Last we checked, a 75-degree day with a potential side of thunder isn’t all that bad for a Saturday in New Orleans, so maybe keep those outdoor plans flexible. Whatever the case, it's springtime in the city, which means it's always wise to have an umbrella in one hand and a snowball in the other—just in case.
