Yesterday morning, a single-family home in New Orleans became the site of a sudden inferno that left an elderly male resident fighting for his life. At approximately 6:12 a.m., the New Orleans Fire Department received a call and raced to the residence at 1932 Foucher St., where they discovered smoke billowing from the back of the house. According to an official statement by the NOFD, the individual had been extracted from the blaze by his wife and a neighbor, only to be found unresponsive outside the dwelling.
Firefighters on site wasted no time initiating CPR on the victim, endeavoring to resuscitate the man before the New Orleans Emergency Medical Services could arrive. When the NOEMS took over, they transported the elderly man to the hospital, continuing life-saving measures en route. Searching through thick smoke, NOFD's Fire Operations personnel were quick to isolate and extinguish the fire, tracing its source to a bedroom at the rear of the house.
Firefighters also rescued a dog found in a closet, offering a small moment of hope amid the chaos. Six NOFD units and 20 personnel responded, bringing the fire under control by 6:25 a.m. As per the NOFD, no other injuries were reported. The fire was believed to have started due to the victim smoking in bed while using an oxygen tank. As of our report time, the man's condition remains unknown, and whether he has made it through the ordeal has yet to be disclosed.
