A school bus incident involving 20 children ended without injury in Delafield on Friday morning. As reported by FOX6Now, the collision occurred at the intersection of Genesee Street and Main Street at around 8:20 a.m. The bus was transporting students to school when another vehicle traveling north on Genesee Street struck the bus.
All children and the bus driver were promptly evaluated at the scene and were confirmed to be unharmed, while the driver of the other vehicle also appeared to have sustained no injuries. The students were able to quickly be escorted back to school, ensuring minimal disruption to their day. According to a statement obtained by WISN, the school principal was able to escort the students on foot the remaining blocks to Cushing Elementary.
"It appears to be a minor accident with no significant damage," Lt. Ryan Jacobs of the Delafield Police told GMToday. Furthermore, Lake Country Fire and Rescue were among the first responders to arrive on the scene, corroborating the lack of injuries and property damage.
Police confirmed that the intersection had to be briefly shut down to allow for a thorough investigation of the incident. While the crash remains under investigation, the involved driver is cooperating with the authorities and no one is currently in custody. "We are grateful that everyone involved is safe," Jacobs further added. "As always, we remind motorists to exercise caution around school buses and prioritize the safety of our children."
