An accident involving a semi-truck carrying concrete barriers caused significant disruption on I-35 in Oklahoma City earlier yesterday. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported that the incident occurred near Grand Boulevard when the semi struck a stalled vehicle, leading to the fall of three concrete barriers that subsequently collided with another car. This mishap prompted the closure of a portion of the interstate, as detailed by KFOR.
According to News9, the event which transpired just after 7 a.m., resulted in the semi losing three of its concrete rails and blocking traffic. The blockage not only hampered the flow of vehicles, it also ushered in a challenge for the emergency services to manage the situation, and restore normalcy. Traffic was snarled for several hours as the authorities and cleanup crews worked to clear the substantial debris from the roadway.
Fortunately, despite the scale of the accident, no major injuries were reported. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol emphasized the absence of significant harm to those involved, though the incident did cause considerable inconvenience to travelers and a prolonged effort to clear the obstruction was undertaken. The barriers in question came into contact with another vehicle after becoming dislodged, though this did not result in critical emergencies, as highlighted by OKC FOX.
Recovery operations continued throughout the morning, with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol spearheading the response. Their report noted that "it took a while to clear the roadway and get traffic moving again." The cleanup was ultimately successful, allowing for the re-opening of I-35 to regular traffic flows later that day, as per OKC FOX.
