Chaos erupted at the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center last Saturday when a fight between two individuals led to a stampede, injuring several attendees. According to a social media post from the Dallas County Sheriff's Department, Dallas Police responded to reports of an active shooter at around 1 p.m. at the convention center located at 650 S. Griffin Street.
The preliminary investigation revealed that no shooting took place. Instead, a loud noise resulting from multiple poles being toppled during the altercation was mistaken for gunshots. The resulting panic sent attendees into a frantic dash for the exits.
There were multiple non-life-threatening injuries reported as a result of the pandemonium that ensued. In response, a family reunification center was established at 400 Lamar Street, as noted by Dallas Police.
