North Carolina-Based Logistics Firm IMC Pro Settles for $400K Over Allegations of Fentanyl Precursor TransshipmentSource: Google Street View

IMC Pro International Inc., a North Carolina-based logistics company, has agreed to a $400,000 settlement over allegations of violating the Controlled Substances Act. The U.S. Attorney's Office in the Western District of Texas accused the company of transshipping chemicals used in fentanyl production. Authorities seized five packages linked to IMC Pro that contained regulated chemicals.

During a DEA investigation, authorities seized packages in Eagle Pass containing 26.4 kg of 1-BOC-4 Piperidone and 138.66 kg of (2-Bromoethyl) benzene, both identified as chemicals related to fentanyl production. The investigation examined IMC Pro’s business practices, which allowed Chinese companies to use its common carrier accounts to generate shipping labels, making it appear as though IMC Pro was the shipper. Acting U.S. Attorney Margaret Leachman stated, "In the face of the fentanyl epidemic, my office will hold both those who distribute illicit fentanyl and those who provide the means to manufacture such substances accountable for their actions," as reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office.

IMC Pro has agreed to a settlement requiring it to end similar business agreements in the future, including for any successors. After discovering the misuse of its shipping accounts, the company terminated them and ended agreements with the foreign entities involved. IMC Pro is also working with the U.S. government to identify other cases of transshipment involving fentanyl precursors. Special Agent in Charge Daniel Comeaux stated, "This first-of-its-kind settlement exposes loopholes some companies are exploiting to bring poison to our communities," according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Erin Van De Walle negotiated the settlement, which resolves the allegations without IMC Pro being found legally liable. The case is now closed.
