A fire in Northborough, Massachusetts, on Saturday led to the complete destruction of a home and left firefighters battling intense flames. According to WCVB, the Northborough Fire Department was called to the scene on Jenkins Drive in the afternoon, with the blaze ripping through the building until nothing but a charred skeleton remained.
The effort to subdue the fire escalated to a two-alarm response, with mutual aid provided by several nearby fire departments. While there were no civilians reported injured, one firefighter did suffer minor burns to both arms, received treatment on scene, and continued to work, Boston 25 News reported. Despite efforts to save them, several dogs reported to be in the building at the time of the fire have yet to be found.
Visibly, the home's roof caved in, as captured on NewsCenter 5 video, with firefighters at the scene addressing the remaining flames and hot spots. The conflagration, which began around 4 p.m. Friday, was finally deemed under control at approximately 5:36 P.M. the following day. At this time, the cause of the inferno is still under investigation by the Massachusetts Fire District 14 Fire Investigation Team, in collaboration with the local fire and police departments and the state's Fire Marshal's Office.
Firefighters from Northborough, Westborough, and Marlborough, along with Patriot Ambulance, responded to the fire. As parts of the roof collapsed, crews set up safety "collapse zones." An excavator was later used to remove the unstable parts of the building and fully extinguish the fire.
