An NYPD officer was hospitalized after being pinned between two vehicles in a collision involving an out-of-control Dodge Charger in Greenwich Village this morning. PIX11 reports that the incident took place at West 13th Street and Seventh Avenue shortly after 7 a.m. when a 43-year-old man driving a Dodge Charger while changing lanes struck a sanitation street sweeper.
The Dodge then continued to veer out of control, slamming into the officer, who was on his way to his vehicle. According to authorities cited by PIX11, the 26-year-old officer was trapped between his vehicle and the Charger. The driver of the Charger was also injured in the crash and remained at the scene before he was taken into custody, though the charges he may face have not been disclosed.
Both the officer and the Dodge driver were transported to the hospital. ABC7NY confirmed the officer was in stable condition. The crash caused significant disruption in the area as investigators worked to determine the series of events that led up to it.
The driver, whose vehicle had Pennsylvania license plates, complained of pain and was said to be in stable condition at Bellevue Hospital. The exact circumstances around the crash and sequence of events are still under investigation.
