An unsettling spree of violence and theft unfolded in Oakland County, with Holly Police reporting Monday that a 16-year-old female and her 21-year-old boyfriend, identified as Joseph Matthew McDonough, face serious charges. According to CBS News Detroit, the duo's criminal activities began with an assault and robbery on March 2, at approximately 1:02 p.m., at a residence on Grange Hall Road in Holly.
The series of events led to the severe assault of a 58-year-old woman, who told police that her daughter and McDonough arrived at her home and escalated to striking her and demanding car keys. Following the assault, the suspects absconded with the woman's credit cards, other belongings, and vehicle as she was transported to the hospital in serious condition. After the assault, Holly Police listed her car as stolen and alerted law enforcement agencies across Oakland and Macomb Counties, as stated in the victim's statement reported by ClickOnDetroit.
The search for the stolen car yielded results two days later when Clinton Township Police spotted the vehicle. Despite the driver fleeing an attempted stop, the vehicle was later found abandoned in a parking lot and impounded. In connection with further criminal activity, police linked the suspects to additional thefts of two vehicles from a Holly gas station and party store between March 8 and 10, utilizing video images from the businesses, as per the information detailed by FOX 2 Detroit.
On March 10, an incident involving fleeing and assaulting an officer led to the arrest of McDonough and the teenager by Warren Police. The police took custody of the 16-year-old and housed her at the Oakland County Children's Village juvenile detention facility. McDonough was lodged at the Macomb County Jail, with his bond set at $10,000 cash. The charges include assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, unlawful driving away of a vehicle, and larceny in a building, according to the testimony provided by Holly Police Chief Jerry Narsh.
All three stolen vehicles involved in the crime spree were recovered, and the investigation is ongoing. Additional charges are expected against both suspects, and Holly investigators suggested that accomplices might be involved with the other stolen cars and related crimes.
