Oklahoma City residents should be prepping for a mixed bag of weather conditions this coming week as per the latest forecast from the National Weather Service (NWS). Starting today, there's a 60% chance of showers and possibly a thunderstorm post-3pm, with temperatures hitting a high near 67 degrees Fahrenheit. A "South southeast wind 9 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph" is expected to roll through, potentially bringing with it amounts of rainfall between a tenth and quarter of an inch, though thunderstorms could usher in higher quantities, according to the NWS forecast.
The weather is set to quickly turn, however, with showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 9pm tonight, followed by gradual clearing and lows around 48 degrees. The southeast wind should to stubbornly persist between 11 to 16 mph, gusting as high as 24 mph, and the chance of precipitation cranks up to 70%. Onto Monday, locals can anticipate patchy fog before 11am before the skies become mostly cloudy, with highs soaring up near 73.
Heading into Monday night, the NWS predicts "a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before midnight," followed by an 80% chance of showers and potentially a thunderstorm between midnight and the early morning hours. The soundtrack to your dreams could well be the rhythm of rain against your window, given the forecast for showers after 3am and lows dipping to around 53 degrees.
For those with Tuesday plans, it's a coin flip on whether you'll need to carry an umbrella; there's a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mostly sunny skies, and the temperatures are predicted to climb high near 62. The South southwest winds should continue to show off, "17 to 24 mph becoming west northwest in the afternoon" with the possibility of gusts hitting as high as 37 mph. It's gearing up to be a week where you might just want to keep both sunglasses and a raincoat within arm's reach, as per the National Weather Service's forecast.
The rest of the week settles down somewhat weather-wise, with a scant 20 percent chance of showers Tuesday night before the skies part to partly cloudy conditions and a low around 37 degrees. Going into midweek, the NWS anticipates sunny skies Wednesday with the mercury capping out around 54, whereas Wednesday night should be mostly clear with 34 being the magic number on the thermometer. And if you're looking forward to the weekend, it appears to warm back up, with a high near 68 degrees by Friday.
