Oregon's ardent lovers of both sweets and cannabis might be in for an unexpected risk, as a local brand's pot-infused cookies are being recalled for failing to flag a potential allergen. According to OregonLive, the Oregon Liquor and Cannabis Commission (OLCC) recalled Lissa’s Fresh Baked Cookie Bites last Friday. Notably, the THC-laden snickerdoodle and chocolate chip cookies missed a crucial allergen warning for milk on their packaging.
Despite mounting concerns around food allergen labeling, this oversight was discovered when the Oregon Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety Program conducted a routine inspection. After the inspection at a marijuana retailer carrying by-products from C&R Oregon Corporation or Green Box Manufacturing LLC, the food safety issue came to light, as detailed in information from Elkhorn Media Group. It's worth noting that while these products contain butter, which is a milk derivative, this information was omitted from their labels, leaving lactose-intolerant consumers potentially vulnerable.
Thus far, no "health-related complaints" have been linked to the products, as mentioned by the OLCC and reported by KOIN. Meanwhile, the OLCC continues investigating the oversight, scrutinizing how the allergen was neglected on the cookie packaging. As of now, the extent of this labeling mistake’s repercussions remains to be assessed fully.
