Hundreds gathered at Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church in Midtown for a town hall event hosted by Tennessee Congressman Steve Cohen (D-Memphis). The event lasted 90 minutes longer than scheduled and covered a wide range of topics, including federal budget cuts and the Trump administration’s policies on immigration and tariffs, as reported by WREG.

As per Local Memphis, during the meeting, a resident asked, "What can we do to actually make a difference right now?" Cohen responded by urging continued legal efforts and advocacy.

Cohen referred to the event as "one of the largest recent town halls in the country," with over 800 attendees, according to WREG.

Max Richtman, president and CEO of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare, addressed concerns about the future of pensions and Social Security. "There are many myths and misunderstandings about Social Security," Richtman said in a statement obtained by Local Memphis.

Cohen reassured attendees of his commitment to oppose the current administration’s policies and encouraged public involvement. "People need to be activised and mobilized, demonstrate," Cohen told WREG. "Get into good trouble sometimes in the future."

Cohen reminded constituents of his record of resistance, including filing an Article of Impeachment against Donald Trump in 2019, as noted by Local Memphis.

Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, speaking for the Trump administration, responded to the criticisms, stating, "President Trump has been unequivocally clear on this. He is going to protect Social Security and Medicare benefits and Medicaid for hardworking Americans who paid into these entitlement programs and deserve those hard-earned benefits," according to WREG. Cohen is scheduled to speak before a Democratic caucus toay, continuing the conversation on these issues.
