Dr. Toni Lopez has been named the sole finalist for the position of superintendent of Pasadena Independent School District. This decision was made during yesterday's Pasadena ISD Board of Trustees meeting, as reported by Click2Houston. Dr. Lopez, who is currently the district’s deputy superintendent, is set to fill the position soon to be vacated by the retiring Dr. DeeAnn Powell. However, due to legal requirements, the board must wait 21 days before holding an official vote on her appointment, scheduled for March 27.
In their search for a new leader, the Board enlisted the expertise of the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Executive Search Services in October of last year. As per details obtained by Pasadena ISD website, TASB consultants collaborated with staff and community groups two month later to deliberate on the leadership qualities desired in the new superintendent. The resultant profile served as a measure for the Board and consultants to assess applicants for the post.
Dr. Lopez's history with Pasadena ISD stretches over 28 years, with her tenure encompassing roles such as teacher, assistant principal, principal, executive director, and associate superintendent of human resources. In her most recent role as deputy superintendent of staff and academic achievement, she has been heavily involved in both the administrative and academic aspects of the district.
The upcoming decision on March 27 will follow a waiting period mandated by law, ensuring that there is an ample time for consideration and due process.
