The aftermath left an adult male victim lying seriously injured in the roadway; despite efforts by officers and Sacramento Fire Department personnel, the individual was later pronounced deceased at a local hospital.

The involved vehicle did not remain at the scene initially, fleeing before the arrival of the police; however, in a turn of events that saw the suspect's return to the location of the incident, the occupants were detained by the officers on the scene, officers provided emergency medical aid to the victim until they were relieved by Sacramento Fire Department personnel, the victim was transported to an area hospital. Ultimately, the investigation led by the Major Collision Investigations Unit (MCIU) and Crime Scene Investigators (CSI) resulted in the arrest of the driver, 34-year-old Abdishakur Mohamud, who was found to be driving under the influence and now faces charges, including felony hit-and-run resulting in death.

The identity of the deceased has not been released pending notification of next of kin, in line with the policies of the Sacramento County Coroner's Office.
