The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is working to repair the historic Ashville Road (Route 2006) covered bridge after it was damaged by a vehicle. The bridge, which spans Octoraro Creek at the Chester County-Lancaster County border, has been closed to traffic following the incident. Temporary repairs are being planned to reopen the bridge to vehicles, with permanent restoration expected later this year.
Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has stated that these temporary repairs are a short-term solution, ensuring safe passage for vehicles until more extensive restoration work can be done. Updates on the progress of the temporary repairs will be provided as work continues.
In the meantime, a detour has been set up for drivers. The alternative route uses Lloyds Road, Route 272, Route 3016 (Hopewell Road), and Route 3001 (Forge Road), redirecting traffic around the damaged bridge.
