Pennsylvanians will receive a pleasant surprise in their mailboxes this week as the Pennsylvania Treasury launches the first wave of Money Match checks, totaling over $1.7 million. State Treasurer Stacy Garrity, Senator Scott E. Hutchinson, and Representative Ryan Bizzarro have announced the rollout of this automatic unclaimed property return program, which had unanimous support from the General Assembly and was signed off by the Governor last year.
More than 7,000 recipients will find checks with their names on them, owed to monies they weren't even aware were lingering in the state's possession. As reported by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Garrity emphasized the importance of spreading awareness: "In the coming days, more than 7,000 people will receive Pennsylvania Money Match checks totaling more than $1.7 million - and most of these folks didn't even realize they had unclaimed property waiting for them." This program is set to return lost funds, no strings attached, to Pennsylvania citizens.
Senator Hutchinson highlighted the simplicity of the process, noting that Pennsylvanians needed to take no action to receive their due. Representative Bizzarro mirrored this sentiment, underscoring the program's benefit to the community. Thanks to the hard work of the officials, funds that might have remained in the shadows are now finding their way home.
