
A noxious bout of chaos erupted within the walls of a Queens middle school cafeteria on Friday when pepper spray was set off resulting in injuries to more than two dozen individuals. According to the New York Post, the incident occurred around 12:45 p.m. at the College Point Collaborative Middle School, where two young female students, ages 12 and 13, discharged pepper spray into the bustling space, ultimately affecting 20 children and four staff members.
The repercussions of this assault on tranquility were immediate, eye irritation and difficulty in breathing clouded the well-being of those present, necessitating medical attention for numerous afflicted souls. In the wake of this turmoil, as ABC 7 New York reports, a total of 26 individuals sustained injuries, amongst these, 11 stricken students required hospitalization at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens Hospital to quell the stinging assault that had breached their eyes and lungs.
The juvenile perpetrators of the spray were taken into police custody and, following a brief foray into the hands of law enforcement, were released to their guardians, a reflection of the tender age and the complicated nature of accountability within such youthful ranks.
