Philadelphia is on high alert after a home invasion in the Mayfair neighborhood left a family of five traumatized and robbed of over $40,000 worth of cash and jewelry. Early Sunday morning, four masked men reportedly broke into a home on the 3200 block of Cottman Avenue, holding the residents at gunpoint. The suspects, described as being between 20 to 30 years old and dressed predominantly in black, with one individual in a green coat, made away with $19,000 in cash, $25,000 in jewelry, and five iPhones before fleeing in an unknown direction, as stated by NBC Philadelphia.
According to the police report, the victims included a wide age range—a 15-year-old boy, a 25-year-old woman, a 29-year-old man, a 55-year-old woman, and a 61-year-old man. An investigation into this harrowing incident is currently ongoing, with authorities working diligently to track down the assailants. One of the victims, choosing to remain anonymous, recounted to 6ABC the fear they experienced, saying, "They just told me to stay in my bedroom and don't look at him."
Despite the terror they faced, the family is now attempting to recover and repair the emotional and physical damage inflicted upon them. "We're doing better now but still fixing the damages," the same victim admitted during an interview with PHL17.
In the wake of the invasion, Philadelphia police are reviewing surveillance footage to help locate the suspects. With no arrests made as of yet, the community remains on edge, and a plea has been extended to the public for any information that may assist in the apprehension of the individuals responsible. The affected family member also imparted a direct plea to their assailants during the 6ABC interview, saying, "Please don't do this to anyone else. It was like, really traumatizing for me."
