Phoenix is welcoming a game changer this weekend with the grand opening of Title 9 Sports Grill, a trailblazing establishment that's billing itself as the city's first women-focused sports bar. Drawing inspiration from the landmark Title IX legislation, this new hangout is situated at 4221 N. 7th Avenue, a stone's throw from 7th Avenue and Indian School Road. The owners, Audrey Corley and Kat Moore have shared their aspirations to create an inclusive community hub that celebrates women's achievements in sports.
The much-anticipated opening, scheduled for Sunday just in time for Selection Sunday’s March Madness bracket reveal, promises to be an eventful celebration, according to a statement obtained by azfamily.com. For Corley, a former college basketball coach and founder of Boycott Bar, and Moore, founder of Short Leash Hotdogs + Taproom, the vision was clear: to fill a void in the sports bar arena where female athletes are not just an afterthought but the main event. "I think they need to know that they’re gonna come out and get a great experience," Corley elucidated, expressing her commitment to patrons experiencing the passion and kinship embedded in women's sports.
Inside Title 9 Sports Grill, guests can expect to find it adorned with screens featuring women's sporting events and a menu featuring classic bar foods and drinks, many from female-owned businesses. A special touch to their offerings includes dishes named after iconic female athletes.
A crowning feature of the space is the "Trophy Room," an area in the bar dedicated to celebrating and commemorating women in sports. According to ABC15, this special section will house donated trophies and other mementos in honor of Phoenix Mercury players and other Arizona athletes, creating an ambiance that resonates with local pride and history.
