Phoenix-area drivers will need to navigate through a series of freeway restrictions this weekend as the Arizona Department of Transportation tackles various improvement projects. From Friday to Monday, roadwork will span across key routes including Southbound Interstate 17, Northbound Interstate 17, and Interstate 10, as reported by ADOT. Travelers are advised to account for additional commuting time and seek alternative paths where available.
Specifically, Southbound I-17 will be reduced to two lanes from Loop 303 to Happy Valley Road starting 9:00 p.m. Friday to 8:00 a.m. Sunday for lane striping, an element within the larger pavement improvement endeavor. Accompanying closures of southbound on-ramps at Loop 303 and Dixileta Drive, along with both south and northbound ramps at Jomax Road, will necessitate drivers to slow down and merge safely in work zones, as ADOT's notice delineates.
Progressing to Northbound I-17, the freeway will be condensed to two lanes between Dove Valley Road and State Route 74/Carefree Highway from 1:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Saturday. This, too, is for lane striping as part of an overarching pavement improvement project. Motorists face a closure on the northbound I-17 on-ramps at Loop 303 and Dove Valley Road, and the frontage road between Loop 303 and SR 74 will be shut down.
Moreover, Interstate 10's constriction will affect both directions between the I-17 "Split" interchange and US 60 from 8 p.m. Friday to 4:00 a.m. Monday due to the Broadway Curve Improvement Project. Notably, "The westbound I-10 lane restrictions are scheduled to end by 10 a.m. Sunday," per the same ADOT advisory. Additionally, the westbound I-10 on-ramp at Baseline Road is closed this weekend for overhead sign work.
