In an effort to combat opioid addiction in rural and suburban areas of Pierce County, local authorities are offering funding to create mobile opioid treatment units. These units are designed to serve communities with limited access to treatment for opioid use disorder. The initiative is backed by opioid settlement funds and the federal COSSUP program, with an initial funding pool of $3,263,159 for qualified organizations, as per the Pierce County release.
The proposal, released by Pierce County Human Services, calls for up to two fully operational mobile units. These units will provide Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) and a range of additional services, including counseling, harm reduction, primary care, peer support, and telehealth. The deadline for submitting proposals is May 5 by 2 p.m., with more details available on the Pierce County project webpage.
This initiative aims to address gaps in healthcare access in the region as the opioid epidemic continues to affect communities. The mobile units will deliver treatment and support in underserved areas, providing a comprehensive approach to care.
