In a significant ruling by the Placer County Superior Court, 66-year-old Randall Eshbaugh has been sentenced to life in prison for continuous sexual assault on a minor. The Placer County District Attorney's Office reported that Eshbaugh received the maximum sentence of 25 years to life, in addition to 34 years and 8 months, after a jury convicted him of multiple offenses, including lewd acts on a child under 14 and having sexual intercourse with a child under 10.
The sentencing handed down by the Honorable Suzanne Gazzaniga last Monday marks the culmination of a trial that began in December of 2024, wherein the jury received accounts from the victim describing molestation and abuse experienced throughout her life. Found guilty as well; Eshbaugh was also in possession of child pornography. According to a social media post by the District Attorney's Office, two additional victims testified to the abuse they endured, and a search warrant executed by the Roseville Police Department unearthed disturbing evidence in the defendant’s storage units.
During the trial, crucial evidence came to light with the discovery of an inappropriate photo of one victim, taken when she was approximately 6 years old. Although a fourth sexual assault victim was located, her testimony was not part of the proceedings. "I commend all of the victims for their bravery in coming forward as it held the defendant accountable for his actions and will prevent him from committing crimes against children in the future," the prosecutor said on the case, which has wider implications for the safeguarding of minors in the community.
