An investigation is underway in north Broward County where a heartbreaking tragedy has unfolded, resulting in what authorities are currently considering a double murder-suicide with the suspect being an 80-year-old man identified as James Sheridan. According to a report by BocaNewsNow.com, deputies from the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) discovered three individuals shot to death in a home on South Golf Boulevard in Pompano Beach after responding to a call for a welfare check last evening.

At around 7:15 p.m., following concerns raised due to overflowing mail and two vehicles parked unattended detectives initiated a door-knock at the residence but received no response prompting the intervention of Pompano Beach Fire Rescue to gain entry inside the home, where they encountered the distressing scene of three people with fatal gunshot wounds, BSO deputies then confirmed the deaths at the scene along with identifying Sheridan as both suspect and one of the deceased; with evidence suggesting a self-inflicted gunshot. The Broward Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit is currently investigating the details of this double-murder suicide, as per the official statement obtained by BocaNewsNow.com.

WSVN reported that neighbors who knew the Sheridan family, who had been renting the house for about a year, expressed disbelief. One resident said, "It's a terrible feeling, like it's not real."

Neighbors shared their recollections of the family, indicating the Sheridans were private individuals who exhibited no outward signs of distress, “[James Sheridan] was very friendly, and [there was] no indication whatsoever that he would be capable of something like that at all, so it’s just a shock,” neighbor Michael Higgins told WSVN. Anita Horten, a friend of the family for over 30 years, left flowers on their lawn, she said, "It’s shocking. I don’t understand it. I hope we can make sense of it" adding "I just want people to know that [Mrs. Sheridan] was one of the most amazing people. She had the biggest heart, and we are going to miss her."

The BSO’s Homicide Unit continues their investigation into the deaths and motives behind this tragic incident.
