A fatal crash on Highway 26 has claimed the life of a Beaverton man, as reported last week, with Oregon State Police responding to the incident last Monday at 4:50 a.m. near milepost 44 in Clackamas County. According to the preliminary investigation, the westbound Chevrolet Malibu driven by Selena Mae Brust, 27, of Portland, careened off the road for yet-unknown reasons, hitting a rock and rolling into the northern side of the highway.
The vehicle had been reported stolen to the Gresham Police Department before the collision. Brust was taken to a hospital for evaluation before being incarcerated at Clackamas County Jail, where she’s facing charges that include Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants, Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle, Reckless Driving, Reckless Endangerment, and Manslaughter II, according to a report by Oregon State Police. Nathan Andrew Bergstrom, 45, who was a passenger in the Malibu, was declared dead at the scene.
The aftermath of the crash resulted in a closure that affected Highway 26 for about seven hours as authorities conducted their on-scene investigation, causing significant traffic disruption. The cause of the crash is currently under ongoing scrutiny as OSP looks to unravel the chain of events leading up to the tragic outcome.
