The French luxury retailer Printemps has marked its territory in the United States with a store opening at 1 Wall Street, located in New York's Financial District. Eager shoppers can now indulge in a slice of Parisian chic without a transatlantic flight, as the store opened its doors this past Friday, according to PIX11. Famed for their high-end fashion offerings, Printemps' new 55,000 square-foot concept department store brings not only sartorial selections but an intriguing culinary element to the table.
Returning to his New York roots, Chef Gregory Gourdet orchestrates the store's elaborate array of five food and beverage hot spots, encompassing two floors. Spending the last 17 years on the West Coast, Gourdet is a three-time James Beard award recipient, who's bringing his blend of French and Haitian cuisine to the Big Apple, the New York Post reported. In what seems to be a multi-sensorial shopping experience, customers can relish in Gourdet's offerings ranging from an all-day café to a fine dining establishment while browsing through the latest fashion collections.
Amidst the backdrop of the illustrious One Wall Street skyscraper, Printemps brings life to an area beleaguered by the pivot to remote work during the post-COVID era. The new location looks set to inject some much-needed zest to a neighborhood deemed as overly focused on commuter traffic. Local resident Keillie O'Malley voiced her optimism to the New York Post, saying, "Everyone gives this area a hard time. It was very commuter, but it's starting to get a personality. I hope this will help [the area] get nicer."
Printemps meticulously intertwines fine dining with high fashion, a concept lauded by Gourdet. "What we are doing here is really special. It’s a fashion and food and beverage/hospitality experience, and all those pieces interplay with each other very well," Gourdet told the New York Post.
Aside from the sheer luxury of high-end fashion and food, the Printemps' modern New York establishment is backed by substantial Qatari funding through Olympe Investments. Housed within a historical structure, the Art Deco Ralph Walker-designed tower integrates retail with luxury living. Jean-Marc Bellaiche, CEO of Printemps Group, highlighted the store's distinctive nature, telling the New York Post "Having the "food and beverage seamlessly integrated into the store" is part of what makes Printemps in New York unique."
