Following reports from a local elementary school, Pueblo County Sheriff's detectives apprehended a couple from Pueblo West on charges of child abuse. Ryson Ashley, 27, and his wife, Ashtan Ashley, 33, were arrested and are facing charges for knowingly/recklessly causing injury to their child. Both individuals have been booked into the Pueblo County Jail, as per Pueblo County Sheriff's Office.
The case came to the attention of law enforcement in October 2024 when school officials noticed visible signs of mistreatment on a 6-year-old student. The child, whose identity remains protected, was subsequently admitted to the hospital for treatment. After being cared for, the child was placed with the Department of Human Services.
An extensive investigation by the detectives ensued, culminating in a warrant issued for the arrest of the Ashleys. They were detained at their residence in Pueblo West. According to Pueblo County Sheriff's Office, this turn of events marks a significant milestone in a troubling case that highlights the work of authorities in safeguarding children from harm.
