A 65-year-old auto body shop owner was found dead inside his Queens business, sparking a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. As reported by ABC7NY, the individual was discovered yesterday in Mekniko Autoworks located on Cross Island Parkway, with cuts on his arm and neck.
Neighborhood sources described the man as a fixture in the local community, jointly running the shop with his brother, both of whom were dedicated to their craft. "He was a nice guy, he was a wonderful, you came, any problem with your car, you brought it in," one neighbor told ABC7NY. However, the time the victim was found has not been made clear.
According to AM New York, the victim's brother was the one to find him after coming to check on him. The scene, as described by police sources, was grim, presenting the victim lying on the ground surrounded by auto tools, with authorities specifying the wounds to have been an elbow and neck laceration.
Emergency services pronounced the man dead on arrival, and his identity has been withheld pending notification of next of kin. The body has been sent to the Medical Examiner's office for an autopsy to establish an official cause of death. Sources familiar with the investigation, believe it is premature to conclude whether this was a case of foul play, with further inquiries pending.
