The University of Hawai‘i baseball team kept their streak alive with their latest win against UH Hilo, marking their sixth straight victory. In a game that extended into extra innings, the Rainbow Warriors claimed a 9-8 triumph on Tuesday at Les Murakami Stadium. According to KHON2, the game reached a climactic end when pinch-hitter Itsuki Takemoto drew a walk with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th inning, securing the win for the team.
With the pressure mounting, and victory hanging in the balance, Takemoto maintained his composure to work a favorable count before being awarded the decisive walk. The tension of the game had risen in the ninth when Kamana Nahaku's two-out RBI single leveled the score, setting the stage for the extra-innings showdown, as detailed by Hawaii Athletics.
The Rainbow Warriors' performance has turned heads this season, with their 18-5 record being the best 23-game start since 1992. Before reaching the extra innings, the game saw several shifts in momentum. UH initially took the lead only for the Vulcans to rally back and take over in the eighth inning, before UH Hilo was ultimately overcome by the relentless Rainbow Warriors.
Despite the defeat, UH Hilo showed resilience in pushing the game to its limits, testing the home team’s resolve, however, their efforts would bring their season record to a less impressive 6-20. The 'Bows', on the other hand, are set to continue their campaign on the road against CSUN, starting a three-game Big West series on Friday, Cabinet marked by their most recent surge of late-game heroics.
