A fatal car accident occurred in Raleigh, claiming the life of a 52-year-old man last night. Donnie Nesbitt was identified as the victim who died after his vehicle, a 2016 Honda Accord, veered off the road and collided with a tree on South New Hope Road near South Rogers Lane.
WRAL reported that the crash took place around 11:30 a.m., while The News & Observer specified the time of the incident occurred at 11:27 p.m. The Raleigh Police Department said Nesbitt was traveling at a high speed through a curve before striking the curb and losing control of his vehicle.
Investigators are working to understand the events that led to Nesbitt's fatal crash. "The vehicle then hit the curb and exited the roadway to the right where it collided with a tree," according to a statement made by the Raleigh Police Department in coverage by CBS17. Police have not released further details regarding the incident at this time.
Following incident, the section of New Hope Road where the accident took place was closed for several hours to facilitate an investigation. Thankfully, no other persons were injured or involved in the tragic event.
