Raleigh's Pullen Arts Center is displaying a new chalk mural by local artist and NC State senior Lucy Osborn, which will be on view until April 17. The piece aligns with the gallery's current theme, "Going Home," and features illustrated frames depicting scenes and objects related to domestic life, as reported by the City of Raleigh.
Osborn's artwork draws from her mixed-media sketchbook, which the City of Raleigh describes as filled with collages of found items that reflect the intimate and familiar aspects of what constitutes "home." The mural aims to connect with visitors through individual images or the combined effect of its many frames.
Osborn, who is developing her Capstone animated film for an April premiere, studied etching techniques under printmaker Irena Bujárková during a study abroad program in Prague. Her work focuses on "demonstrating the joys of being alive, especially through the little things in life," according to the City of Raleigh. Her new mural installation in Raleigh centers on themes of community identity and shared memories.
