Renay Juan Moreno, 29, has been sentenced to 45 years in prison after pleading guilty to murder in a case that left the Fort Worth community grappling with violence and loss. The Tarrant County District Attorney's Office took to social media to commend the work of the Fort Worth Police Department in bringing the case to a close and for "helping keep our community safe."

In the March 4, 2021, incident at the 5D Smoke Shop and Game Room, Moreno, accompanied by Albert Gonzalez, contributed to a scene that was tragically cut short by violence when Gonzalez shot and killed 37-year-old Mahmoud Ghanim. Following the murder, the pair proceeded to rob the shop's patrons, taking money and cell phones. As Ghanim lay dying, they even rifled through his pockets, extracting cash. A bag of money from the game room was also stolen. According to the Tarrant County DA's post, last month saw Gonzalez receiving a life sentence for his role in the crime.
The successful prosecution of the case was attributed to a collaborative effort by Assistant District Attorneys Tim Rodgers and Chase Payne, Investigator Danny Nutt, and Victim Coordinator Laura Medina.
