A tragic incident has left a community in mourning and a man in custody following a fatal hit-and-run in Garland. According to a post from the Garland Police Department's social media, the incident occurred last Saturday near East Oates Road and Miami Drive. Two pedestrians were struck, one a 14-year-old female who succumbed to her injuries on the scene, and the other, a 16-year-old male who was later transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
Officers discovered a 2005 brown Chevy Silverado at the crash site, which had substantial damage. Eyewitnesses reported a male seen leaving the vehicle with a child post-collision. The Garland Police, through the evidence they collected and accounts from witnesses, identified and arrested 30-year-old Stetson Ybarbo from Rowlett. Ybarbo, who allegedly was speeding eastbound on East Oates Road, lost control of his vehicle, striking the pedestrians and several parked cars before fleeing without rendering aid to the victims.
Ybarbo now faces charges including "Fail to Stop and Render Aid – Involving Death" and "Fail to Stop and Render Aid – Involving Serious Bodily Injury," according to the Garland Police Department. He was located at a residence in Garland and has been booked at the Garland Jail. The Garland Police have made it clear that their investigation into the events of that night is still underway.
